Education

Heritage Community Farm partners with Whale Branch Schools in Northern Beaufort County to promote hands-on learning through gardening and connecting to the natural world.

Food Security

Heritage Community Farm addresses food insecurity with numerous gardens, planted and harvested by students, to distribute fresh vegetables to their families and the community.

Conservation

Heritage Community Farm promotes environmental awareness with a pollinator garden, bluebird boxes, and an outdoor classroom for students to study the interactions of nature.

Preservation

Heritage Community Farm honors the Gullah farming history of Beaufort County by giving students an opportunity to grow healthy foods on a campus that was once a farm.

Our mission

Heritage Community Farm identifies underutilized land in Northern Beaufort County, South Carolina, to return to productive use for education, food security, conservation, and historic preservation.

School and community gardens, along with pollinator and historic gardens, will support Growing Together to plant, produce, preserve, and promote environmental awareness.

The Junior Service League of Beaufort holds an annual Jubilee fundraiser to enrich the lives of women, children, and families in the community. We were honored to receive another funding grant this year. Heritage Community Farm is most grateful for the continued support of JSLB and the recognition of HCF President, Catherine Isbell, as the Honorary Member of the Year. HCF and JSLB are truly Growing Together!

We celebrated Earth Day at the Port Royal Farmer's Market by hosting a 'make your own seedling cup' table using cardboard toilet paper rolls. Make your own: Cut and crease the rolls, make 4 slits to create flaps, fold flaps over starting on left, top, right, and with bottom flap tuck under flap #1. Viola, a biodegradeable seedling cup ready to fill with soil and seed. Keep moist and place in a sunny spot until ready to plant right into the garden. Less plastic, more compost, and a happier Earth.

Modular Raised Garden Bed Kits donated by @vego_garden have been a huge hit at the elementary school. Working with these kits brought much learning and fun to the students. It is a joy to see young children dive into tasks such as putting the kits together, learning best practices for filling raised beds, planting seeds, and watching them grow. Thank you so much to Vego Garden for providing the opportunity for young gardeners to also grow!
